Fantastisk Film Festival! / Fantastic Film Festival!

Toronto, Venedig, Cannes & Sundance. Vad är nu detta? Jo, det är prestigefyllda filmfestivaler dit horder av cineaster flockas årligen. Det är ofta lite "guldkant" med kända ansikten, filmer som följer huvudfåran för ett visst tema. Oftast det som är populärt från de stora filmfabrikerna, mestadels drama eller dokumentärer. Då finns det en filmfestival som har hamnat lite på sidan, men genrerna som den representerar har börjat ge festivalen det erkännande som den förtjänar. Jag talar om Lunds Fantastiska Film Festival.

I år firar den 20 år, ett forum för likasinnade att upptäcka film inom science fiction, fantasi och skräck i alla dess former. Spännande regissörer, både nya och rutinerade uppvisar 2014 film från USA, Sverige, Island, Norge, Australien, Japan, Irland och Nya Zealand, för att nämna några. På grund av olika omständigheter för tillfället, så har jag inte tid att se så många filmer. Personligen är jag inte så mycket för skräck, men en irländsk film verkade intressant, kortfilmen "Canis". Om barn som försöker överleva vargar som stryker utanför husen. En annan irländsk film "Space - orbit ever after", skulle jag också gärna vilja se. Amerikanska "I, origins" verkade också särskilt intressant. Men samma kväll den går ska min fru sjunga med sin kör.

Däremot har jag bokat biljett till australiska "These final hours" på fredag, som känns som en spännande och gripande historia om hur jorden har 12 timmar kvar att existera. En man får en liten flicka på halsen som han försöker återföra till hennes pappa. Av glimtaren att döma känns det lite delar "Mad Max" blandat med olika post-apokalyptiska teman och kryddat med överlevnadsdelen från "The Walking Dead" (utan zombier?) och det lyckade spelet "The Last Of Us". Jag är smått uppåt och förväntansfull!

Toronto, Venice, Cannes & Sundance. What is this now? Well, those are all prestige-filled film festivals where hordes of cineasts flock annually. Often there's a "silver lining" with famous faces, films that are main stream within a certain theme. More than often that which is popular from the bigger movie factories, mostly drama or documentaries. And then there's another film festival that is a bit far off from the spotlights, but the genres it represents has begun earning the recognition this festival deserves. I am talking about Lund's Fantastic Film Festival.

This year the festival turns 20 years, a forum for like-minded to discover film within science fiction, fantasy and horror in all shapes and forms. Exciting directors, both new and veterans are displayed in 2014 from USA, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Australia, Japan, Ireland and New Zealand among others. Due to different circumstances at the moment, I will not be able to watch that many films. Personally, I'm no big fan of the horror genre, but an Irish film seemed interesting. The short-film "Canis". About children trying to survive the wolves that are prowling outside the houses. Another Irish film, "Space - orbit ever after", would be cool to watch. The American "I, origins" also seemed particularly interesting. But that same evening my wife has choir-practice.

On the other hand I have booked a ticket for the Australian movie "These final hours" this Friday, which seems like an exciting and gripping story about the last 12 hours of Earth. A man suddenly has a small girl on his hands and tries to return her to her dad. Judging by the trailer, it looks like a crossover - ranging from "Mad Max" mixed with post-apocalyptic themes and spiced with the survivalist parts from "The Walking Dead" (no zombies?) and the acclaimed game "The Last Of Us". I am thrilled and expectant about the film!
