Slutet av februari betyder ju som bekant alltid bokrea här i Sverige. Jag har snurrat runt lite på de traditionella bokrea-platserna men får krasst konstatera att det känns som förra årets bokrea. I stort sett samma böcker på alla platser; akademibokhandeln, bokia, Ica, City Gross och alla andra som har böcker i sitt sortiment. Djup suck. Samma dammiga ordböcker och förra årets trötta deckare nu till ett bättre pris. Jag blev inte positivt överraskad. Ändå lockar bokrean folk. Är det bara jag som går mot strömmen?
The end of February means book-sale here in Sweden. I have spun around at different venues that usually host those sales but concluded that it felt like last year's book-sale. Pretty much the same books at all places. Deep sigh. The same dusty dictionaries and last year's tired crime novels now to a reduced price. I was not positively surprised. Yet the book-sale attracts people. Is it only I who go against the flow?
Den enda bokhandeln som erbjuder något annorlunda är Science Fiction bokhandeln. Det kanske har att göra med tycke och smak. Jag vill ha något annat än det normativa utbudet, en litterär rebell kanske. Varje år har jag hittat något kul på deras rea. Annorlunda litteratur och faktaböcker. Tidigare år har jag haft tillfälle att besöka rean fysiskt i Malmö, genom närhet till jobb eller andra positiva omständigheter. I år har jag inte haft den möjligheten så jag beställde ett par böcker via nätet. Inga mängder eller så. Man får vara försiktig, en titel kan vara till exempel del 4 i en serie på 12 böcker (Som den episka Tidens Hjul serien), det får man dubbelkolla. Sedan får man inte bli köpgalen därför att en del böcker är löjligt billiga (vad sägs om 19 SEK?).
The only book-store who offer something different is the Science Fiction Bookshop. It may come down to each and one's taste. I want something else than what is customary, a litarally rebel perhaps. Each year I have found something fun at their sale. Different litterature and factual books. Previous years I have had the opportunity to visit the physical shop in Malmö, through cloxe proximity to work or other positive circumstances. This year that has not been an option so I ordered a few books from the Net. Not a huge ammount or anything. You have to be careful, a title can itself be only book 4 in a series of 12 books (like the epic tale of the Wheel Of Time series), that needs to be double-checked. And also you need to watch out not to end up with a buying spirit since some books are ridicilously cheap (what about 19 SEK?)
Vi var på tur upp till Östergötland under sportlovet. Där ägnade jag en ansenlig tid en kväll för att verkligen kolla igenom realistan. Jag fick till sist med 3 böcker till min beställning till ett gemensamt pris på ca 200 SEK. Helt ok. Och idag hämtade jag ut paketet. Böcker väger mycket. Tur att jag inte beställde "tegelstenar" till böcker. I paketet låg mina tre böcker, samt lite reklam för annat skoj. Bland annat en liten uppmuntrande presentation av dystopi-litteratur och nya katalogen för våren 2017.
Over the winter sports holiday we were up in Ostrogothia. One evening I spent quite some time checking out the list thoroughly. In the end I ended up with 3 books for my order to a joint price of about 200 SEK. Ok. And today I picked up the delivery. Books weigh quite a deal. Lucky me I didn't order "bricks" for books. In my parcel were the 3 books, some pamphlets and other fun stuff. Among them was an encouraging presentation of dystopia-literature and the new catalogue for Spring of 2017.
Bok 1 / Book 1:
- The Demolished Man, av Alfred Bester / The Demolished Man, by Alfred Bester.
Denna bok kom ut första gången 1953 och har blivit en klassiker i science fiction genren. Hur planerar och genomför man ett mord i en framtid där polisen är telepater? Intressant problem, ska bli spännande att se hur historien utvecklar sig. Den här vore perfekt koppla-av litteratur på tåget.
This book came out for the first time in 1953 and has become a classic within the science fiction genre. How do you plan and execute a murder in a future when the police consists of telepaths? Interesting problem, it will be exciting to see how the story develops. This would be perfect relaxing literature on a train.
Bok 2 / Book 2:
- The Best of Star Wars Insider.
Om det är något som jag verkligen gillar så brukar jag oftast inte nöja mig med att, i det här fallet - film, bara se dem. Minst lika intressant är det med hur filmen gjordes. Att få veta mer om processen från manus, ändringar och färdig film. Den här volymen samlar riktiga godbitar (intervjuer, skisser, filmarbetet) från den officiella tidningen Star Wars Insider. Jag har länge gått och suktat efter en av dessa volymer och det var perfekt att den här kom med på realistan.
If there is something I really like I usually don't feel content with, in this case - movies; to just watch them. Just as interesting is it to find out how the movie was created. To know more about the process from script, changes and a finished film. This volume has collected the goodies (interviews, sketches, the production) from the official magazine Star Wars Insider. I have been wanting one of these collection volumes for a long time so it was perfect to find this on sale.
Andra teman och filmserier har också gjort liknande samlingsböcker. Två som jag vore intresserad av vore en bok om arbetet med Aliens - återkomsten (R.I.P - Bill Paxton / Private Hudson 2017) eller första Rovdjuret filmen.
Other franschises and series have also done similar collections. Two that I would be interested in would be a book about the production of Aliens - The return (R.I.P - Bill Paxton / Private Hudson 2017) or the first Predator movie.
Bok 3 / Book 3:
- I Sagans Land, av Peter Madsen. / In the land of fairytales, by Peter Madsen
Jag har följt Peter Madsens verk på avstånd ända sedan hans Valhalla-serie. Den danske konstnären är helt fantastisk och stilen är så perfekt för saga. I den här samlingen finns ett par mer eller mindre kända sagor vackert illustrerade av Madsen. Den blir perfekt att läsa och beundra de vackra bilderna tillsammans med barnen. Stor vinst till ett fantastiskt pris!
I have followed Peter Madsen's work from a distance from his Valhalla-series. The Danish aritst is simply fantastic and the style is perfect for fairytales. In this collection there are a number of more or less known tales beautifully illustrated by Madsen. This will be perfect to read and admire the beautiful images together with the kids. Big win to a fantastic price!
