Med lanskap är det lättast att arbeta sig ut från bakgrunden och gradvis gå från ljusa till mörka nyanser. Man får också fundera lite över hur ljuset påverkar omgivningen. Du ska inte vara rädd för att göra saker helt svarta, det blir så ibland vid motljus eller avsaknad av ljus.
With landscapes it's easiest to work your way out from the background and gradually go from light to darker tones. You also need to think about how the light affects the surroundings. Don't be afraid to paint areas pitch black, it turns out like that sometimes with backlight or absence of light.

Jag ska erkänna att jag är svag för fantasi, både som genre (Fantasy) vad gäller böcker, spel och filmer. Men också fantasirik konst. Ofta förpassas den till skräphögen för att den inte är lika "svår" som Salvador Dali eller har något jobbigt livsöde kopplat till sig och automatiskt platsar i de fina utställningshallarna. Alkohol, galenskap, sexuella affärer och avvikande upptåg premieras ofta till det finkulturella. Då är det konst. Jag kunde inte hålla med mindre faktiskt.
Det förhåller sig så här tycker jag, och det kan föras över till allt egentligen - men jag begränsar mig här till film, konst, teater och musik. Ingen konst är egentligen dålig, det är också väldigt snävt att säga att "så här spelar man inte teater", eller "det här är dålig musik.". Till sist handlar det om egentligen bara om ens egna preferenser.
Låt mig illustrera detta med ett exempel: 3 personer är inne på ett galleri och fastnar för en tavla som de står och tittar på en lång stund. När de sedan blir ombedda att beskriva vad den handlar om hävdar den första att den bestämt handlar om en revolution mot överheten, den andre tolkar konstnärens teknik mer än själva baktanken och den tredje bara gillade färgerna. Ingen av dessa har rätt eller fel. Det är mer än tolkningsfråga. Många sätt att göra samma sak.
Fantasikonst är alltså lika fint som Claude Monet, på sitt eget sätt. Så skäms inte alls för att du blir inspirerad av Lindsay Archer, Alan Lee eller Boris Vallejo. En av mina personliga favoriter är Rodney Matthews, hans konst har följt med mig sedan tonåren och är en konstant källa till inspiration.
I will be the first to admit that I have a soft spot for fantasy, both as a genre (Fantasy) as far as books, movies, games go. But also Fantasy art. It's more than often passed to the dung heap because it's not as "spleeny" as Salvador Dali or has some miserable life story connected to the art, where it in that case automatically qualifies to the more posh exhibition halls. Alcohol, madness, sexual affairs and deviant behaviour are encouraged to fit the more high culture of art. Then, and only then, there is art. I couldn't disagree more, actually.
This is the case, and it can be transferred to apply to everything really - but I narrow it down to merely film, art, theater and music. No art is bad in their own right, it's too narrow to say "this is not the way to be doing acting", or "this is bad music". In the end it's all about preferences.
Let me illustrate with this example: 3 persons are at the gallery and they all end up looking at one particular painting. When they later are asked to describe it and its meaning the first one claims firmly that it's about revolution against soceity, the second interprets the artist's technique rather than the meaning behind the painting and the third just liked the colours. None of these are right or wrong. It's a matter of interpretation. Many ways to do the same thing.
Fantasy art is therefore just as fine as Claude Monet, in its own way. So do not feel ashamed that you are inspired by Lindsay Archer, Alan Lee or Boris Vallejo. One of my personal favourites is Rodney Matthews, his art has followed me ever since my teens and is a constant source of inspiration.
